CHP 11 Clipped- characterized by quick, terse, and clear enunciation: Krakauer uses this word to describe when Walt would become flustered with something.
Mercurial- changeable; volatile; fickle; flighty; erratic: Chris family would describe Walt moods as being dark and mercurial.
Entrepreneurial- a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, esp. a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk: Loren took some entrepreneurial ventures, none of them successful. (pg 108)
Verging- the edge, rim, or margin of something: Chris referred to reading as an intensely spiritual exercise verging on religion.
Impressionable- easily impressed or influenced; susceptible: Eric Hathaway describes other high school kids as being impressionable kids, that were blown away from the spiritual talk that Chris would give them about running.

Lampooned- virulent satire directed against an individual or group: This describes what Chris would do to the Jimmy Carter and Joe Biden.
Imbeciles- classification for a person in the 2nd order of mental retardation: This is Chris interpretation of what his mother thinks of him when she sends a letter telling Chris that “you have completely drooped away form all who love and care about you. Whatever it is whoever you’re with do you think this is right?” Chris gets angry for his mother meddling in his offers’.
CHP 13 Recalcitrant- resisting authority or control; not obedient or compliant; refractory: This is the word that Carine describes Chris’ expression in the photos that Carine has of her and him together.
Ribbing- an act or instance of teasing: Describes Chris poking at his sister’s capitalistic zeal. CHP 14 Intermittent- alternately functioning and not functioning or alternately functioning properly and improperly: this is what Krakauer describes himself as being. “As a youth, I am told, I was willful, self absorbed, intermittently reckless, moody.” Psycho-neurotic- Narcissistic Personality Disorder is a disorder in which a person has a grandiose self-importance, preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited success, a driven desire for attention and admiration, an intolerance of criticism, and disturbed self-centered interpersonal relations: This is what Edwards regarded climbing as. Itinerant- traveling from place to place, esp. on a circuit, as a minister, judge, or sales representative; itinerating; journeying: Krakauer described himself as an itinerant carpenter.
